No Need to Catch Up

What’s something you used to worry about but don’t anymore?

I used to worry that I had started late and needed to catch up. While other people were getting married, buying houses and settling down, I was still studying. Their lives seemed to be moving according to the usual timetable, while mine appeared delayed.

But I was not behind. I simply had other priorities. I was pursuing something I loved and believed in. That choice brought its own costs, but it also gave me a life shaped by learning, purpose and vocation. Those years were not a detour before real life began. They were real life.

I no longer believe that every door stays open forever. Some possibilities pass, and choices place limits around the lives we can live. But that does not mean we must race to compensate for what we did not choose.

There was nothing to catch up on. The task is to enjoy the priorities we have chosen and to be content with what flows from them. Life may not contain everything we once imagined, but it can still hold surprise, growth and new opportunities.

A late beginning is still a beginning. And a different timetable is not a problem to overcome.
