A 24-Hour Scholarship

If you had an unlimited budget for 24 hours, what would you do?

If I had an unlimited budget for 24 hours, I would not buy anything spectacular. I would buy breathing space.

I would start with students from war-torn countries who came here with a plan. Their families had saved. They had sacrificed. There was a path. Then war came. The money stopped. Homes were lost. Banks closed. Parents could no longer help. These students had not failed to plan. Global conflict wrecked the plan. So I would pay their fees for the year.

Then I would ask about their friends, because the university is full of smart, capable students carrying the same impossible weight. I would pay their fees too.

Then I would pay for the care students keep delaying because they cannot afford it. Proper therapeutic care. Dental care. Medical care. Groceries. The things that let a person keep going.

For 24 hours, I would remove as much fear as possible. Your fees are covered. Your rent is covered. Your care is covered. You can keep going.
