What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?
If I could name a secret skill worth having, it would be the ability to know what a person most needs in a particular moment. Whether they need encouragement, a careful question, practical help, or simply someone who will listen without rushing to speak.
I think that kind of skill matters more than people often realise. It requires attention, empathy, and restraint. It means not assuming that every problem needs a solution straight away. Sometimes people need advice. Sometimes they need support. Sometimes they just need space to say what is going on and know they have been heard.
I have always respected people who can judge that well. They do not take over. They do not make the moment about themselves. They respond in a way that helps the other person feel understood and supported.
That is the kind of ability I would want. Not because it is impressive, but because it is useful and kind. A lot of life comes down to knowing when to speak, when to ask, when to help, and when to stay quiet. To get that right is no small thing.
