The People Who Make Others Bigger

Who are your favourite people to be around?

My favourite people to be around are the ones who make other people bigger. They make relationship feel safe—no performance required, no fear that what you say will travel. They’re encouraging without being over the top, and you don’t come away feeling managed or judged.

They also add meaning, not noise. They don’t fill the air for the sake of it. They listen, ask the right question, and say things that actually help. Conversation with them tends to bring clarity and purpose, not just commentary.

They strengthen people in practical ways. They check in. They notice who’s carrying a load. They coach without patronising. They back growth and don’t write people off.

And they carry warmth lightly—humour, enthusiasm, steady presence—without turning the room into chaos. In other words, they build a kind of human space where work, honesty, growth, and hope can all fit. That’s why I like being around them.
