Tell us about your favourite pair of shoes, and where they’ve taken you.
I’m a bloke, so I don’t have a massive collection of shoes. I’ve got a pair of work shoes I wear most days, some walking shoes for the dog and pottering around the house, hiking boots for bush regeneration and the odd proper walk, and a pair of “dress up” shoes for weddings and the like.
And then there’s my one pair of casual shoes that seem to do the rest of life.
My wife decided I needed smartening up. She marched me across the road to the Ecco shop, pointed at a pair, and said, “Buy these.” So I did.
They’ve been everywhere. They come with me to the beach for lunch most Saturdays. They’ve been to family celebrations and dinners, and to the movies, and on holidays. Last year they went a bit further than my average shoe: Chile, Argentina, and Antarctica (on the boat I mean, boots and layers of woollen socks for the continent). A few miles. A few continents. Later this year they’ll add Vietnam to the list.
They’re still comfortable. They look good. I wear them a lot.
