Valley of the Waters

Name an attraction or town close to home that you
still haven’t got around to visiting.

I visit the Blue Mountains once or twice every year, but for reasons I can’t quite explain, I’ve never done the Valley of the Waters Walk at Wentworth Falls. I drive past the sign at the turn-off, think that would be interesting, and keep going. It’s a comfortable hour and a quarter from home, so there’s no real excuse—just the familiar habit of doing what I always do.

The strange thing is that it’s exactly the kind of walk I love. Seven waterfalls, apparently—one after another—plus mountain views and pockets of rainforest. And it’s not one of those “only for the hardcore hikers” tracks either. A lot of it is well maintained, which makes it a genuinely good family option.

So here’s the plan: next time we’re up there, I’m turning left at the sign instead of nodding at it like an idea I’ll get to one day. No grand itinerary. Just the walk, one decent stop, and the quiet satisfaction of finally visiting the place I’ve been “meaning to” visit for years.
