The Year of Beginnings

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

If I could relive a year, it would be 1986 — the year we were married. It was a season of joy and discovery, of learning how to build a life together from the ground up. We were settling into a new town, finding our way in new work, and creating the small rhythms that would shape the years to come.

There were missteps, of course. We took on too much too soon, moved too far from family, and worked harder than we needed to. There were moments of loneliness and uncertainty — the kind that only hindsight can see clearly. But even those moments were part of growing.

We celebrate our 39th anniversary this month, I look back with both gratitude and regret. If I could relive that year, I would be intentional about enjoying all the firsts and minimise all the other changes.
