How Am I Feeling Right Now? A Four-Way Conversation

Mind: You’re fine. Okay. Manageable. But let’s be honest—today’s loaded. An 8.00am meeting, then visiting Mum after her fall and surgery. Lunch with our colleague celebrating citizenship—good, but another thing on the list. And don’t forget the student conversation after that complaint. Important, yes, but draining.

Heart: Important, yes—but don’t turn everything into a task list. I’m glad about the dog. The walk will feel good, even if only for ten minutes. And I am worried about Mum. We’re all stressed about what’s next for her. But the lunch—think of the joy in it. He’s so generous and grateful. It’ll be good for us to sit in that moment.

Body: You’re both forgetting something—I’m exhausted. By 8.00pm, I’ve got nothing left. It’s like someone pulls the plug. Even reading feels heavy. I need something light, mindless, maybe a walk without purpose, just to breathe.

Spirit: A walk without purpose is still purpose. Growth is here, hidden in all of this. The hard student conversations that help someone change. The coffee with the male students tomorrow, where honesty might shape who they’re becoming. Even the stress around Mum—it’s part of loving her. None of it is easy, but it’s shaping us.

Mind: I just want to get through the list.
Heart: I want to care well.
Body: I want rest.
Spirit: I want hope.

And maybe—today can hold all four.
