We don’t have any specific travel plans at the moment—there are other priorities as I head toward retirement. Chief among them is refurbishing an apartment that we hope will be a good fit for the next chapter of life.
As I’ve written elsewhere, I don’t keep a bucket list. https://theafterword.blog/2025/04/13/bucket-lists-and-buffett-lists/
I’m not driven by a catalogue of dreams to tick off, but by a latticework of focus—five areas that I return to again and again:
- Listen to God
- Be a good husband
- Keep on learning
- Grow in generosity
- Live sustainably
Travel only really matters to me if it nourishes one or more of those areas. That’s the map I follow.
Of course, there are places that interest me—particularly the UK, where our forebears came from England, Ireland, and Wales. It would be lovely to share that experience together. But travel for its own sake has never held as much weight for me as the meaning it carries. When it happens, I hope it will be slow, shared, and sustaining—more about depth than distance.
For now, though, our adventures involve floorplans and fittings. It may not sound glamorous, but there’s a quiet satisfaction in preparing a home where we can live attentively, generously, and well.
